Amazon remains the number one etailer, according to the latest IMRG/Hitwise Hot Shops list.  Interestingly the online department store failed to rank in the top 10 of MutualPoints merchants during May.

Fellow MutualPoints merchants Tesco, Play.com and Apple Computer all reside within the top ten online shops, and Amazon remains unchallenged in its number one slot.

Amazon, which has been first in the rankings of every Hot Shops list since May 2006, keeps its top spot ahead of Apple, Play.com, Tesco.com and Argos.

However, there are some new players entering the list including Marks & Spencer and Next.

What’s interesting is the sheer range of retailers included on the list.  Whilst electrical and travel sectors dominate the industry there are also companies from grocery and DIY sectors included in the top 50, showing the ever growing importance of online retailing in the lives of the British public.
