Where now for Sainsbury’s online shop?
Yesterday the BBC reported that Sainsbury had suspended it’s online shop after a computer fault. The company announced that it was going to compensate customers who’s orders were subsequently disrupted. A company spokesman said: “We froze our online home delivery website late yesterday [Tuesday] afternoon when we identified a technical issue and we are contacting customers whose deliveries have been impacted.
They have suggested that the site will resume normal service as soon as possible, but evidence from online visitor tracking company Hitwise showed how severely the outage hit Sainsbury’s visitor numbers.
Interestingly Hitwise revealed that people were ditching Sainsbury in their droves and the biggest recipient was Tesco, who got an 8% growth in traffic from the day.So it seems that people are quick to jump ship when things like this occur.
Are you a Sainsbury’s customer? Were you affected by the problem? Would this influence where you shop for groceries online in future?
