MutualPoints Zeitgeist: May 2008
As part of a regular monthly series, the MutualPoints Zeitgeist will look back at the month that was and reveal the trends underpinning the MutualPoints site. The concept aims to blatantly mimic the Google Zeitgeist that looks under the bonnet of the Google search engine to reveal the most popular terms and trends of the year.
Most popular search queries
In true Google style we’ll begin with the 10 most popular search queries entered into the MutualPoints search engine during May.
1. pricerunner
2. amazon
3. kelkoo
4. ebay
5. argos
6. tesco
7. doris day
8. play.com
9. john lewis
10. wii fit
There are some trusty old favourites in there, with MutualPoints favourite, Pricerunner heading the pack for May. The Nintendo Wii Fit is proving its popularity sneaking in at the bottom there and with it being arguably the consumer product of the summer this isn’t surprising. What is surprising however is the appearence of good old Doris Day at #7 in the list. If this was you, or you know of someone that has searched for Doris Day, we’d love to hear from you, whether you found what you were searching for (indeed what it was you were searching for!).
Most popular shops
1. Pricerunner
2. Tesco
3. Kelkoo
4. Expedia
5. Betfair
6. E.On
7. Dialaphone
8. Littlewoods
9. AA Home Insurance
10. British Gas
Pricerunner and Kelkoo are popular entries from the quick rewards section of the site. Some of the other shops represented seem to reflect the concerns of our time. Food prices are a regular cause for concern at the moment so shopping online at Tesco can provide some great cost savings. Likewise energy prices have been rising throughout the past few years, with oil prices seeming to rise by the day, so seeing a couple of utilities in there is no surprise as you flock to find the best deals possible. It’s also prime holiday season and with Expedia being one of the biggest names in the industry they’re a great place to book your holidays.
So that’s our take on the month that was May. As always we’d love to hear from you so let us know your thoughts below.

What has happened to John Lewis? It’s number 9 on your most popular search queries, but it doesn’t appear on the list of shops any more.

Hi Elle,
Unfortunately JohnLewis appear to have fallen out of love with cashback based marketing. You can read a bit more about the situation here - http://www.affiliates4u.com/forums/buy/77608-john-lewis-direct-ends-relationship-cashback-websites.html - but basically they’ve stopped running on all cashback sites.
Which is a shame as they’re clearly very popular with you guys.
